Meta’s Threads platform is making strides in enhancing user experiences on popular messaging apps. The latest development involves the addition of support for rich link previews on Apple iMessage, allowing users to get a sneak peek of the content from Threads posts directly within their messages app.

The newly introduced rich link preview on iMessage offers valuable information such as the user’s name, the profile picture of the post’s author, and a text snippet from the post. This functionality is made possible through the use of standard meta tags embedded within the post’s HTML code. Apple has taken the initiative to whitelist Threads as a legitimate social media platform, granting it access to this feature on iMessage. Furthermore, Google Messages also supports rich link previews for Threads posts, contributing to a seamless user experience across different platforms.

While Apple maintains an active presence on various major social media platforms like X (previously known as Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram, it is yet to establish an official account on Threads, the latest microblogging platform under Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta umbrella. However, the presence of an official account for Phil Schiller, an Apple Fellow, hints at the possibility of Apple’s future involvement on Threads.

Threads by Instagram enjoyed immense popularity during its initial launch, amassing over 100 million sign-ups within days. However, the platform experienced a subsequent decline in its user base. Currently, Meta is devoted to stabilizing the platform and retaining its users by introducing new features and capabilities, competing with the likes of Elon Musk’s X. As Threads continues to evolve, its integration with Apple iMessage and Google Messages adds value to users and might play a crucial role in its resurgence.
